A ZX Spectrum Next Mini….

Heavy on the Photos this post is….

Last year, I needed to scratch an itch…so I spent over a thousand hours developing something

And, i’ll need to spend another thousand hours finishing it!

It’s a 50% scale Spectrum Next! – every dimension is half of what it would be on the next! – you can fit 8 of these in a 2x2x2 cube in the space on your desk that your Next is currently occupying!

It’s maybe 25% of the way to being a useable, working product that would be able to be sold!

Right now, it’s working as an RP2040 / Raspberry Pi Pico based Keyboard.

I got as far as the 4th case prototype before I had to pause things a little due to Real Life kicking in big time.

I’m early days on a working 6 layer FPGA based board, routing them ain’t fun though,

And, I made enough of a tweak to the case height to accomodate a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 – AKA the CM4!

As for the status and timeline of finishing this project….Who knows!. it’s something i’m pootling along with in the background and only have picked back up again due to using quite a bit of the tech in this for the new A500 Mini Keyboard!
