I’m going to try something a little unconventional here.
Lets look at a simple Bill Of Materials (BOM) to make a fully quick fit connector for J15
Total cost – £5.89
That’s quite a lot for a connector, for a board i’m hoping to sell for for a number starting with a 3, or, increasingly likely, in the low 40’s… That total will come down to maybe 1/2 ‘in bulk’ – but we’d still be talking between £2 and £3 , and quite a bit of grief to get those push fit connectors in
Instead, lets put some of the ‘hassle’ on the end user. Do a minor change to the layout to utilise the two existing screws in the case.
I recon, I have a working solution – which costs 10p, but involves Balls!
These ones – Lovely Copper Balls , or similar ones, I’ve not researched copper ball availability just yet! that was the First hit on google!
So, I present , the first trial, that took some balls to do!
Am awaiting new beta boards now to fit and provide the clamping force, it’ll be a few weeks before I get a fully tested blinkenator board shown, the above image is a proof of concept and electrical conductivity!
