C64 Mini Keyboard mod – More Electronics Part II – OOPS

After spending a while lining up the buttons and generally making the PCB layout a bit tidy, I figured I’d print a 1:1 and see just how well it aligns….

I’d compressed the entire Keyboard width down to about 165mm

I’d forgotten to include the detachable Function Keys part of the Mini keyboard in my PCB dimension measurements……!

As can be seen above – the whole keyboard width is closer to 190mm with the attachment on the right – or about 165 without…….

Back to the drawing board :-P……….

OOPS - PCB Layout

The Above Picture shows the mounting holes in the correct place – the old outline ends at the long row of the header connector!

At least this new board outline’s almost correct – i’ll modify it with the cutouts later – going to be a long night re-arranging everything

And, on the plus side I guess – it may well be that my older SMT switches design can now work as there’s so much more space, and, If I do a dual purpose PCB – with Thru-holes and SMT pads for the same device, routing may well be easier as both sides will be available without putting in custom Vias!
