I’m having a go at Using Octoprint with one of the 10’s of Raspberry Pi’s I seem to have Lying around
Mainly to put some use to a Pi camera that I purchased the day it was released and then just sat it in a box……..
I keep geting…………..Communication timeout while idle, trying to trigger response from printer. Configure long running commands or increase communication timeout if that happens regularly on specific commands or long moves.
Did a quick Google and found this Github thingy…..
https://github.com/OctoPrint/OctoPrint-ResendWithoutOk
Installed it (add the URL to your plugins link)

Doesn’t work, still getting dropouts….
I’m using a Pi 2B, a Mobile phone charger and an extra long (extremely high quality) Dick Smith USB cable that was purchased for just $0.50 AUD when they closed down (reduced from $25!!!)….
First thing I do, g̵o̵,̵ ̵j̵u̵m̵p̵ ̵o̵n̵ ̵t̵h̵e̵ ̵f̵o̵r̵u̵m̵s̵,̵ ̵O̵c̵t̵o̵p̵i̵’̵s̵ ̵e̵m̵a̵i̵l̵i̵n̵g̵ ̵l̵i̵s̵t̵ ̵a̵n̵d̵ ̵G̵i̵t̵h̵u̵b̵ ̵a̵n̵d̵ ̵s̵c̵r̵e̵a̵m̵ ̵a̵b̵o̵u̵t̵ ̵t̵h̵e̵ ̵d̵r̵o̵p̵o̵u̵t̵s̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵.̵Read up on the situation….I’m using a Phone charger, the Pi’s probably not getting enough voltage….I’m using a super long USB cable, the USB comms may be corrupting!
Off to rummage in the parts drawers…..
Still little success in getting communications stable, however, others have reported that it works, so, chances are, it’s something with my setup rather than a 3D printer issue….the stuff I’m using connects quite reliably with pronterface on the PC, but PC’s USB ports are made of sturdier stuff than the ones on the Pi!
makes a nice webcam for now!
